Itinerary

Meet the tour leader at 04:30hrs at the Malta International Airport for your check-in on your direct Ryan Air flight to Thessaloniki departing at 06:25hrs. Upon arrival, your private coach together with our local English speaking guide will head towards Thessaloniki’s city centre for a guided tour of this vibrant and lively city. Thessaloniki is easy to fall in love with. It has beauty, chaos, history and culture, a remarkable cuisine and wonderful, vast sea views. Later head to your centrally located 3* hotel for check-in, room allocation and some free time. In the evening you may re-join the tour leader for a short walk within the city for dinner (extra) before overnight.

After your buffet breakfast we offer you an optional excursion to Meteora. Without any doubt the highlight of your stay in Greece would be the visit to the Meteora monasteries. One of the most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, it consists of a number of rock pinnacles topped with a total of 24 monasteries. Together with your local English-speaking guide, visit two (entrance included) of the only six monasteries that are still well preserved before returning back to your hotel. (This excursion entails long travel distances and steep steps)

Today, after breakfast join your tour leader for yet another excursion. Start by driving east towards Mount Olympus but not before a visit to Dion. Dion was sacred for ancient Macedonians worshipping the Olympian gods, especially Zeus. Before his epic eastern adventures, Alexander the Great made sacrifices here and today, a path leads through more than a dozen clearly labelled sites, including sacred springs and the ruins of a Roman theatre. Later continue your way towards Litohoro before reaching the simply spectacular Mount Olympus. Also visible from Thessaloniki is the highest mountain in Greece and notably very important in the Greek mythology as the home of the Greek gods. Mount Olympus is also noted for its rich flora.

After breakfast and checkout, start your way towards Macedonia’s capital city – Skopje, but not before a trip to the Edessa and its famous Waterpark waterfalls. Later (approx: 250km), and upon arrival in Skopje, head to your 4* hotel in central Skopje for check-in and room allocation. In the late evening re-join the tour leader for a short familiarisation walk for dinner (extra) before overnight.

After breakfast, join the tour leader and a local English-speaking guide for an optional excursion to Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. The serene Lake Ohrid, with its atmospheric old quarter that cascades down steep streets is dotted with beautiful churches, traditional restaurants and lakeside cafes.

After breakfast, enjoy your last few hours in Skopje. The Macedonian Capital has a lot of charm and its Ottoman- and Byzantine-era sights are focused around the city’s delightful Čaršija, bordered by the 15th-century Kameni Most and Tvrdina Kale Fortress. Later head towards the city’s airport for your flight back to Malta departing at 13:05hrs.
