Upon arrival at 0900hrs, your private coach will pick you up to start this holiday with a free excursion to Orvieto. This city in southwestern Umbria, is one of the most striking, memorable and enjoyable hill towns in central Italy situated on the flat summit of a large chunk of tufo volcanic stone, overlooking cypress-dotted Umbrian plains. A visit here will reward you with a delightful, perfectly preserved and virtually traffic free world. Your coach will stop at the lower part of Orvieto, and the center of the historical walled city itself can be reached via a Funicular (extra). No visit of Orvieto is complete without a visit to its impressive Cathedral. The cathedral façade is a classic piece of religious construction, containing a large rose window, golden mosaics and three huge bronze doors. After some free time in such surroundings, you continue your way to the hotel in Montecatini. After check in and room allocation, the rest of the evening is free.
Today, after breakfast, we encourage you to join the tour leader for a full day excursion to Lucca and Pistoia. You start your day by visiting the town of Lucca. The city historical centre, hidden behind imposing Renaissance walls, with its cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shady promenades make it a perfect starter for this wonderful holiday. After free time for lunch (extra) or personal sightseeing, you head to Pistoia. This town which has grown well beyond its medieval ramparts, sits snugly at the foot of the Apennines. Its historical centre is tranquil, well preserved and guardian to some striking palazzos and piazzas. Return to your hotel for overnight.
Today, after breakfast, we offer you a marvellous optional day excursion to Florence. After a short familiarisation walk within the historic centre of Firenze, one may enjoy a multitude of buildings and work of arts of international importance. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and the bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays Michelangelo’s Davide sculpture, while the Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and da Vinci’s Annunciation (extra entry fees may apply). One may also enjoy the tranquillity of the River Arno and its famous Ponte Vecchio. Return to your hotel late in the day for overnight.
After breakfast, we encourage you to join the tour leader for an optional full day excursion to Siena and San Gimigniano. Start your day by visiting Siena, effectively a giant, open-air museum to the gothic and secular Sienese art. Numerous restaurants, enotecas and delis every little cobbled street and corner leading towards the famous Piazza del Campo home to the Palazzo Pubblico, and the site for the world famous bi annual Palio. In the afternoon, you continue your way to San Gimingiano, a small walled medieval hill town, known as the town of fine towers and one of the most important towns of Chianti’s Gallo Nero region. Return to your hotel in the evening for some free time and overnight.
Today, after breakfast, you will embark on maybe one of the highlights of such holiday: a full day excursion to the Ligurian region in North West Italy. After arrival in the port town of La Spezia, you will board a ferry (weather permitting and already included) to visit the rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera known as the Cinque Terre, with visits to the villages of Monterossa al Mare, Vernazza and Rio Maggiore, nestled in the cliffs, overlooking the sea and hills where the finest wines are grown. After your return to La Spezia, you start your way back to Montecatini Terme for overnight
Today, after breakfast, we offer you an optional full day excursion to the Chianti district in Tuscany, home to one of the most appreciated wines in the world. Join the tour leader for a pre booked wine and olive oil tasting in a renovated castle, and visit its famous cellars. In the afternoon, and on your way back to hotel, you will make a stop at one of Italy’s most grand shopping malls, the Barberino del Mugello. With more than 100 boutiques, children’s play area, numerous cafes and restaurants, this shopping mall, close to Florence has something for everyone. Return to your hotel for overnight.
After breakfast, we offer you an optional day excursion to Portofino. You start the day early and travel towards Santa Maria Ligure, from where you will board yet another ferry to Portofino, a fishing village, southeast of Genoa. The pastel-coloured houses, high-end boutiques and seafood restaurants fringe its Piazetta, a small cobbled square overlooking the harbour, which is lined with super-yachts of the super-rich. In fact this gorgeous tiny fishing village turned to an up-market resort, is a favourite hide out and most popular with the Italian VIP’s. Return to your hotel for overnight.
After early breakfast and room check out, your private coach will head towards Pisa, for a free half day excursion of Pisa. After a short familiarisation walk within the centre of this city, one can have ample free time in order to visit the famous Leaning Tower (extra) and the nearby Cathedral. After lunch (extra) and time for personal sightseeing, you will continue your way towards Rome Fiumicino Airport in time for check in of your direct Air Malta flight back to Malta departing 2140hrs and expected to arrive at 2305hrs.
