Meet the tour leader at 05:00hrs at the Malta International Airport in time for your check-in of your direct flight to Madrid departing at 07:15hrs. Upon arrival, your private coach will take you to your hotel, to freshen up, before your optional excursion to Madrid. Join your tour leader and the local English-speaking guide and start exploring the city. Few cities can boast an artistic pedigree quite as pure as Madrid’s, and you will definitely fall in love with such sights. Later return to your hotel for check-in room allocation, dinner (optional) and overnight.
Today, after breakfast join your fellow group member for a day excursion to Avila. Explore one of the best persevered medieval bastions in Spain, and enjoy Avila’s old city, surrounded by imposing city walls. Avila is also a deeply religious city that for centuries has drawn pilgrims to the cult of Santa Teresa of Avila.
After breakfast, join your tour leader for a visit to the imposing palace and monastery complex of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. This impressive place (entrance extra), was once the royal getaway to the nowadays prim little town overflowing with quaint shops and restaurants. In the afternoon, return to central Madrid for some free time before dinner (optional) and overnight.
Today, join your tour leader for a day excursion to Madrid. For centuries, Spanish royals showered praise and riches upon the finest artists of the day and masterpieces by painters such as Picasso, Dalí and Miró now adorn the walls of the city’s world-class galleries. During your free time you can opt to visit the Prado Museum or the Royal Palace (entrances extra), or enjoy yourself in Madrid’s centre where the world-famous tapas bars are abundant and highly-recommended
After breakfast, we encourage you to join the tour leader for an enchanting excursion towards the town of Segovia. A UNESCO World Heritage–listed city, Segovia has always had a whiff of legend about it. It may have something to do with the fact that nowhere else in Spain is such a stunning monument to Roman grandeur - the soaring aqueduct; surviving in the heart of a vibrant modern city.
Today, after breakfast join your fellow group members for a visit to truly one of Spain’s most magnificent cities. Toledo, dramatically sited atop a gorge overlooking the Río Tajo, known as the city of three cultures. Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities peacefully coexisted and unsurprisingly, rediscovering the vestiges of this unique cultural synthesis remains modern Toledo’s most compelling attraction. Later head to Aranjuez which was founded as a royal pleasure retreat. The palace (entrance extra) is opulent, but the fresh air and ample gardens are what really stand out.
Today, for your last full day on this wonderful tour, we encourage you to join your English-speaking local guide for an excursion towards the Molinos de Consuegra. Spot endless windmills, the perfect setting for the Don Quixote novel and visit Consuegra’s 12th-century castle (entrance included), once the stomping ground for the Knights of St John. Later head back toward Madrid in time for your dinner (optional) and overnight.
After breakfast and checkout, your private coach will head towards Madrid’s airport in time for your flight back to Malta.
