Meet the tour leader at 07:00 hrs for your check in on your Ryan Air direct flight to Baden-Baden, departing at 09:15 hrs. Upon arrival, your private coach will head towards Basel in Switzerland in time to board the premium ship named after the famous Austrian composer of Viennese waltzes. Upon embarkation, and cabin allocation enjoy your time and familiarise yourself with the spacious sun deck before sailing downstream. Dinner and overnight will follow.
Wake up and enjoy your buffet breakfast onboard. Later we encourage you to join your fellow passengers in Breisach for a full day excursion to the famous Alsace region. Start with a city tour of Colmar, the enchanting city full of half-timbered houses, fascinating districts such as the Little Venice and numerous churches. Later continue your way towards Strasbourg, by having a panoramic drive through the famous wine region of Alsace. Lunch is included before re-embarkation in Strasbourg.
After breakfast, to the sight of the city of Speyer, join your tour leader and fellow group members, for a walking tour of this city, considers as one of the oldest in Germany. This walking tour takes you to the Speyer’s Cathedral the largest preserved Romanesque church building in the world and listed in the UNESCO World heritage list since 1981. Later continue your river cruise downstream in the direction of Mannheim. Here re-join the group for an optional excursion to one of the most beautiful cities in Germany: Heidelberg. Surrounded by forest, this university town is renowned for its half-ruined hilltop castle, which drawn millions of visitors each year. Later head back to the ship, in time to enjoy the entertainment in the bar with the ship’s musician before dinner and overnight.
Today, as you arrive in the charming winegrowing town of Rudesheim, enjoy your buffet breakfast onboard, before your optional shore leave that includes a trip on the mini-train he ‘Winzerexpress’ into the centre of this small town, a visit to the ‘Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet’ and a walk down the ‘Drosselgasse’, lined with wine taverns. Later re-embark on the MS Johann Strauss and enjoy your river cruise on the romantic Middle Rhine, past the famous Lorelei rock. Later arrive in Koblenz, right where the Moselle river flows into the Rhine river. Here you can enjoy an optional walking tour through the old town of Koblenz, a park and flower filled city. In the evening your ship will continue its way northwards towards the German city of Cologne.
Enjoy your breakfast, whilst sailing downstream. Enjoy the panorama lounge with the bar, the sun deck equipped with sun sails and ample seating areas, for some time of peace and relaxation. Alternatively, visit the ship’s library before arriving in Cologne. Upon arrival, we encourage you to join the ships organised walking tour through this old and vibrant city. Here, have a look at the Cologne Cathedral, the third-largest cathedral in the world, and the most visited sight in Germany.
The ship will continue its way past Dusseldorf and other big and small villages towards Arnhem. In the morning, after breakfast, visit the open-air museum of Arnhem with its historic buildings. In the afternoon, and after lunch, re-join other fellow passengers for a city sightseeing tour in Arnhem whose rich and eventful history is still reflected in some of its historical monuments. After dinner, the ship will start its last stretch towards the river cruise terminal in Amsterdam.
The MS Johann Strauss, will arrive in Amsterdam around noon, and soon after lunch, you are encouraged to join the tour leader and other group members for an afternoon coach excursion to Zaanse Schans. Here several windmills, a wooden clog workshop and a cheese dairy will give you an enjoyable insight into the typical Dutch lifestyle of the 17th and 18th century. Later head back towards Amsterdam for you last night onboard.
After your farewell buffet breakfast, disembark the ship and head towards Amsterdam’s airport for your direct Air Malta flight back to Malta departing at 1150hrs.
