A day at sea is never boring on a Royal Caribbean cruise. There is an activity program for guests of all ages and tastes. There are activities geared for the young at heart, children, teens and couples. Programs run all day from dawn to dusk. Start by taking a stroll along the Royal Promenade – it’s the heart of the ship and always bustling with life. Visit the shops and boutiques where there is everything from jewellery to cruise wear. Participate in one of the games or events organized by the animation team on board or just relax by the pool.
Today you will be cruising the Inside Passage, one of the most beautiful coastal routes in the entire world. It features virtually everything you came to Alaska hoping to see, including rain forests, glaciers, fjords and white-capped peaks. All of which create a setting that’s perfect for viewing whales and sea lions. Ship will arrive in Juneau, the capital of Alaska around mid-day. Juneau was founded during a gold rush in 1880. Today, the former gold-mining town counts among its riches some of Alaska’s most spectacular scenery. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Juneau in the Alaska Panhandle, it faces the water from the mainland side of Gastineau Channel. Several magnificent fjords are located along the channel coast and the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, a favourite of visitors, is nearby.
When gold was discovered in the Klondike region of the Yukon Territory (just across the border from Alaska), it resulted in the historic Gold Rush of 1898. As thousands of gold-crazed adventures sought the best starting point for their arduous trek, they found the deepest penetration possible by boat was at the northern tip of the Lynn Canal. This is how Skagway was born.
This narrow fjord is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Juneau. Breath taking Tracy Arm extends over 30 miles long, with nearly a quarter of its area covered in ice. In fact, it encompasses some of Alaska’s largest glaciers, including the twin Sawyer glaciers, which often expel enormous chunks of ice into the waters below in a magnificent process known as calving. Protected within the Tongass National Forest, Tracy Arm Fjord is a haven for wildlife. As you glide through the pristine fjord, you’ll first pass by a lush forest where a number of beautiful waterfalls cascade down, and then you’ll be treated to views of snow-capped mountains and blue-tinged glaciers more spectacular than you could ever imagine.
Day at sea where you can enjoy all the amenities this marvellous ship has to offer. There’s always something to keep you occupied on board. If you feel like pampering yourself check out the Aqua Spa for a massage or let the soothing thalassotherapy pool work its wonders. In the evening prepare yourself for a fantastic dinner. Pop up on the deck or enjoy a slow dance under the canopy of stars and let the romance of the sea work its magic.
